About the vexillographer

[Okay, I’ll level with you, I’m going to use the third person on this page, ‘cuz it sounds really cool. But I’m writing this myself-- just as I’ve authored all the stuff on this site.  --Matt]

MattMatthew Norquist is a native Oregonian, and life-long resident of the Beaver State. He was born in Portland during Oregon’s Centennial year, exactly 100 years after Oregon achieved statehood (give or take 9 days). He grew up in Gresham, and graduated from Sam Barlow High School in 1977.

Matt has always been interested in things graphic and visual. Although he didn’t follow the graphic “dream” vocationally, he has enjoyed using his visual talents in his avocations; he has designed and built numerous web pages, and has dabbled in a little writing. A life-long lover of the arts, Matt is also a musician/singer. Matt comes from a musical family, and along with his five brothers and their father, has sung many times in church, and for special occasions.

Currently, Matt is a UPS driver in Southwest Portland. He is a member of UPS’ Circle of Honor, having achieved 25 years of safe driving.

Matt has been priviledged to honor the Stars & Stripes by singing our nation's National Anthem numerous times at Portland's PGE Park (now Jeld-Wen Field) for Portland Beavers baseball games and a Timbers' game as well. In 2007 Matt was honored to sing the National Anthem in Portland's Rose Garden arena for a Blazers' NBA game

Always fascinated with symbolism, logos, flags and anything dealing with artistic communication, Matt is excited about his latest creation, a new flag for his state– the state he loves, Oregon.
